Project Description
Vanquish an onslaught of monsters in this 3D action survivorslike from the creators of Blood West. Take control of Mirah to defend your homeland from a living hunger, wield powerful weapons and abilities, and save others from the advancing hordes.
Objective 1:
Shaping a Unique Twist on the Vampire Survivors Formula
The client set out to create a fast-paced, enemy-swarming action game inspired by the Vampire Survivors genre with a unique twist. With the core mechanics in place during the alpha stage, they turned to us to help fine-tune the gameplay and overall feel.
While the concept was solid, the early version needed refinement to ensure the experience was both fresh and fun. The game had potential, but balancing pacing, feedback, and moment-to-moment gameplay was key to engaging players.
Our team thoroughly tested the alpha build, evaluating combat flow, power scaling, and player feedback. We provided structured, actionable feedback on key gameplay elements, starting with pacing and enemy waves, ending with visual clarity and progression rewards.
With our input, the developers made targeted adjustments that helped the game evolve into a polished, satisfying experience. The result was a final product that successfully captured the thrill of the genre while offering its own distinct identity.

Objective 2:
Improving Camera Behavior for a More Immersive Experience
Camera behavior played a crucial role in the overall player experience while playing the client’s game. Early versions, however, revealed issues that affected gameplay clarity and control.
The default camera placement and movement felt awkward during gameplay, making it harder for players to navigate the environment and engage in combat effectively.
Through extensive hands-on testing, our team analyzed how the camera behaved in different scenarios, including combat, exploration, and transitions between areas. We delivered detailed feedback on camera angles, responsiveness, and player control, along with suggestions for improvement.
Based on our input, the developers refined the camera system to feel more intuitive and responsive, thereby significantly improving gameplay fluidity and overall player immersion.
Objective 3:
Rebalancing Gameplay Through Ability Analysis
The balance between various abilities in the client’s product directly impacted strategy, fairness, and replayability. During testing, some abilities were clearly overperforming while others felt ineffective.
Imbalanced abilities disrupted the intended challenge curve and limited viable playstyles, risking player frustration and reduced replay value.
We conducted in-depth testing across all character abilities, carefully documenting performance in different scenarios. Our team identified specific mechanics that caused imbalance and delivered a clear set of recommendations to guide rebalancing efforts.
The developers used our feedback to rework several abilities and improve overall gameplay balance. The result was a more strategic, satisfying combat experience that encouraged diverse playstyles and better long-term engagement.

Objective 4:
Resolving Map-Wide Collision Issues
Fluid movement and precise navigation were essential for the client’s product. However, collision inconsistencies across the map created unpredictable moments for players, hindering immersion and flow.
Players frequently encountered invisible walls, fell through solid objects, or experienced unnatural movement due to faulty collision mapping across multiple areas.
We systematically explored the entire game world, identifying and documenting every collision-related issue. Our detailed report included location references, replication steps, and video captures to help the development team address each problem individually.
The development team resolved all reported collision issues, resulting in smoother navigation and a more polished game environment. This significantly improved player trust in the game’s responsiveness and physical consistency.
